The Lifestyles
Organization
began life in the fall of 1969 as the Wednesday
Night Group Discussions, social and educational
meetings hosted by Robert and Geri McGinley. These
social and informative sessions continued for 11
years. WideWorld of Contemporary People, a
swing club for couples, developed as a companion
event to the discussions. The Lifestyles
Convention, held in 1973, became an annual event
and by the 1980s attracted as many as 1,500 couples.
At one time attendees numbered close to 5,000. Over
34 years the Lifestyles Convention utilized resort
hotels and convention centers in Reno, Las Vegas,
San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Palm Springs
and St. Louis, with Las Vegas hosting 12 of the
events. Canadian journalist Terry Gould’s book,
The Lifestyle: A Look at the Erotic Rites of
Swingers by Random House and Firefly Books,
began as a result of Gould’s attendance to one of
the conventions while researching for a book. The
Lifestyle, perhaps the most important of books
on swinging, is largely about The Lifestyles
Organization. In January 1995 The Lifestyles
Organization was incorporated as LSO, Ltd.
NASCA
International
was developed by the McGinleys as a trade
organization for swing clubs. It began in the 1970s
as a means to resolve interclub rivalry among the 19
Southern Californian swing clubs. This success led
to a national, then an international organization. A
consuming motive of the McGinleys was to promote
swinging as a viable and socially important social
recreation, especially for couples.
In the late 1970s
the club, now named ClubWideWorld, ventured
into swing-oriented tours for couples. This venture
became the birth in 1985 of Lifestyles Tours &
Travel, an ARC accredited full service travel
agency. The principal offering of LT&T, as it was
also known, was specially designed tours for swing
couples to Japan, Hong Kong, Hedonism II in Jamaica,
Windjammer Cruises in the Caribbean, tours to Mexico
and Lake Mead Houseboat weekends.
Hedonism II was
discovered by an overnight trip to Negril, Jamaica
by Robert and Jan Queen. Jan had recently joined the
company to run Lifestyles Tours & Travel. This trip
marked the beginning of a long history of Hedonism
II and Lifestyles, serving to make Hedonism II
famous in the swing community. Hedonism Resorts and
the newer Grand Lido Braco continue as important
destinations for LT&T’s many travel clients.
Wanting a resort
dedicated to the swing community Lifestyles
partnered with the owner of Blue Bay Club Resort in
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The resort was closed and
refurnishing to meet Lifestyles specifications.
Unfortunately, a hurricane did so much damage the
resort was closed and remains closed to this day. An
associate of the owner, Sr. Diego de la Pena, owner
of Blue Bay Resorts in Cancun, had his daughter
Patricia, vice president of the company, contacted
Lifestyles inquiring about a similar project for the
Cancun, Mexico area. This became Desire Resort & Spa
– a Lifestyles experience in 2003. Lifestyles
was charged with promoting the new resort concept to
the Lifestyles and Swing Communities. Desire became
an almost instant success and a 2nd
resort, in San Jose del Cabo, was purchased to
become Desire Resort & Spa Los Cabos in November,
2006.
Lifestyles
grew to include weekly couple’s parties, holiday
theme dance parties in hotels, the annual
Lifestyles Convention, weekend Splash!
Parties on both U.S. coasts, Lifestyles Tours
& Travel, Lifestyles Resorts, an Internet based
TripCash Travel Agent Program, Illusion Resorts
and Lifestyles Unique Vacations (LUV). LSO
also offers logo wear clothing and a series of
videos of the annual conventions and seminars
presented at the conventions.
The annual
Lifestyles Conventions attract speakers from
academia, business, law, medical, and entrepreneurs
who offer seminars, as many as 40 each convention,
on sexuality, health, legal issues, recreation,
swinging and other topics of interest to adults. The
conventions also attract companies with products and
services to offer for sale in the exhibit booths of
Lifestyles Adult marketplace. Of some pride to LSO,
the conventions offered artists the opportunity to
display to an interested public erotic works that
otherwise could not be seen. It is Lifestyles
conviction that erotic art is important in that art
is a mirror of life.
Activities in
Mexico led to formation of a Mexican corporation, LS
Encounters S.A. De CV, known as Lifestyles Mexico
with an office in Puerto Vallarta.
The Swing Community
and Lifestyles Community, the former denoting the
totality of swinging to include all those espousing
swinging, swing events, web sites publications and
swing clubs, the latter meaning all members and
associates of The Lifestyles Organization (LSO,
Ltd.), are, as LSO Chairman and President Dr. Robert
McGinley has often stated, a growing and important
economic powerhouse. Internet oriented, swinging as
a social, recreational and sexual lifestyle is a
rapidly growing adult community throughout the
Western World, especially in the U.S. Adherents are
educated, moderately affluent, and socially
motivated.
